Situated within the Brecklands of Suffolk, the Elveden Estate has been owned by the Iveagh family since 1894. It extends to some 22,500 acres, forming a wonderfully mixed landscape of open heathland, pine woodlands and arable fields.
Renowned for its wealth of wildlife and special habitat, most of the estate is designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), and is host to a huge diversity of flora and fauna, many species are rare and some even unique to Elveden.
Farming at Elveden has changed over the decades. From the 1930s to 1970s the emphasis was on milk and livestock, at its peak there were 9 dairy herds, four beef herds, three pig herds and two sheep flocks. Times have changed and the farm now concentrates on field scale vegetables, using irrigation and mechanisation to grow large areas of top quality vegetables for Britain?s highly discerning people.
Vegetable production at Elveden is now managed by Andrew Francis. Potatoes are a major crop with an annual production of over 25,000 tonnes and Juliette is a predominant variety.
Working closely with nature has always been a priority at Elveden, making the best match of modern technology and sensitive handling to deliver safe, wholesome food with a strong environmental pedigree.
