Potato growers need your help!

New research has shown that the potato’s dual identity as a vegetable and a carbohydrate is confusing the nation!

Following a survey commissioned by the Potato Council which found consumers are confused about the health benefits of potatoes, potato growers are calling for potatoes to be re-classified as a ‘supercarb’ – a new food group that highlights just how much goodness potatoes contain.

The potato is unique - officially classified as a starchy carbohydrate, it is the only food in this category which is also a vegetable. Potatoes are packed full of energy whilst containing all the goodness of vegetables including vitamins B1, B6 and unlike rice and pasta, vitamin C. Potatoes are also naturally fat free. Potato growers believe a new ‘supercarb’ food group will help consumers make informed decisions about including potatoes in their diet.
