The Potato Lovers Dinner 2008

The weather in the Borders held fine last week for MBMG's annual Potato Lovers Dinner. Guests from a cross-section of the industry, from growers to foodservice companies, inspected the growing Juliette potato crops at George Curry's West Newbiggin Farm, near Berwick-upon-Tweed, and drank the traditional "toast to the new crop" on the banks of the River Tweed.
The farm tour was followed by an Anya cookery demonstration by one of the area's most prestigious chefs, Colin Bussey. The former executive chef of Gleneagles and DeVere Cameron House presented a number of recipes showcasing the versatility and taste of MBMG's Anya potato.
The annual Dinner took place at the Tillmouth Park Country House hotel, where guests were treated to a potato themed menu prepared by The Lanesborough's executive chef, Paul Gayler, and the Sheraton Park Lane's executive chef Andrew Bennett.
In his welcome speech, MBMG's sales director, Neil Beeton, made reference to the rapid increase in input costs faced by potato growers and the need for closer relationships between customers and their suppliers to ensure mutual survival.
