Potatoes Beat the Credit Crunch!

The current economic climate has led to somewhat of a potato renaissance, as people realise just how versatile and nutritious potatoes are, not to mention great value!!

Potatoes are naturally low in fat (0.3g/100g when boiled) and packed full of vitamins and minerals. A 175g serving of potatoes boiled in their skins contains 44% of the RDA* for Vitamin C and 20% of the RDA* for Iron (*based on a 2000 calorie daily intake)

If you're feeling like some comfort food, you can't beat sausage and mash - there's a couple of great mash recipes on this site, using Potatoes for Mashing or Desiree - just add sausages!!

For an affordable luxury, why not try using the same Potatoes for Mashing to make Dauphinoise potatoes - again there's a really easy recipe on this site - serve with grilled meat or fish and some steamed veggies to make a meal more special.

If you own a slow cooker, trying adding some Juliette salad potatoes to the pot, alongside diced beef or lamb and frozen vegetables, to make a great casserole.
