Potato Lovers Sponsors Healthy Eating Initiative in 2007 PubChef Food Excellence Awards

As a major supplier to the foodservice industry and with potatoes being a popular healthy option on menus, Potato Lovers was very proud to sponsor the Healthy Eating Initiative Award at this year’s PubChef Food Excellence Awards. The award recognised the pub company that has launched the best healthy eating initiative in the past 12 months and was won by the Peach Pub Company.

Founded in 2002, Peach operates operates seven pubs and works with children in local primary schools on projects to promote healthy eating. The work is funded by 25p donations for every Caesar salad sold in the pubs.

The scheme has been running for over a year and has raised over £4,000, which has been shared by six primary schools in the Midlands. Initiatives have included smoothie weeks, a food festival for pupils to learn about vegetables and running a competition for children to design a healthy eating menu, which was then on offer at one of the pubs for a week.

The company has also helped set up allotments run by the pupils and visits to food producers so that children can go through the whole process – from field to plate.
